Lee Byrne FLPI, CITF, AdvCertVC
Lee Byrne is a highly respected financial crime prevention professional, with more than 35 years international banking and finance operational and risk management experience.
Previously Lee headed up the Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crime Prevention faculty for a leading compliance qualifications body. As part of this role, Lee was engaged by leading international banks to provide senior manager and thousands of employees with instructor-led support and updates on a range of financial crime and anti-money laundering related issues, through face-to-face updates and conference presentations that were broadcast across multi-jurisdictions.
He was Head of Compliance and Financial Crime Compliance (MLRO) of a Nigerian Bank in the City of London, Head of Compliance and Compliance Monitoring Manager of a UK retail banking branch network and continues to be approved by the Financial Conduct Authority as a Nominated Officer.
Lee is considered an expert in anti-money laundering and combatting terrorist financing (‘AML/CFT’), including specialist subjects that include anti-money laundering, counter terrorist financing, trade-based money laundering, risk assessments, customer due diligence, sanctions, antibribery, and corruption, and has had an active interest in cryptocurrency risk management for more than ten years.
During his career, he has worked in many of the major financial markets including USA, Russia, Ghana, Nigeria, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil, Europe and the Middle East, giving him extensive knowledge of international best practices. He is currently retained by several leading regulated financial and non-financial businesses, including legal service providers, in the UK, to provide personal advisory support and training guidance to senior leadership teams and management. This includes providing support and guidance to the Boards of banks and working closely with Schedule One MLR Supervisors in the UK who supervisor the legal sector and accounting profession.
Lee has a record of continuous academic learning to support his workbased practitioner skills that includes completion of the St. Andrews University (Scotland) Certificate in Terrorism Studies.
