Which country in Africa performs better than almost every other country in the world concerning bribery and corruption according to its citizens?According to the latest report by Transparency International, The Global Corruption Barometer, the citizens of one country in Africa reported that they were required to ‘incentivise’ the performance of public officials less often than those who responded in Spain, France, Germany, Australia and Italy. The performance was at least equivalent to Sweden!

The report, which is highly relevant to firms ABC risk assessment, and in my view far more authoritative and reliable than the recent proclamation made by Christine Lagarde who stated that the current level of ABC revenue according to her ‘team’ at the IMF was circa 2 trillion. An interesting and quite frankly lazy and unhelpful statement because it is actually based upon a survey completed of approximately 13,000 people in 2000!

This contemporary report summarises the results from 119 countries, territories and regions around the globe and is based on a far more statistically reliable sample of 162,136 adults from March 2014 until January 2017.

Time to get out those ABC risk assessments and make an adjustment I suspect!
